Inquiry Memorial

Infected Blood Inquiry Memorial

The Infected Blood Inquiry Memorial was created to remember all the people infected and affected by the use of infected blood and blood products, particularly between 1970 and 1998.

The Memorial was first developed for the opening of the Inquiry in London in 2018   in collaboration with a group of Inquiry participants.  The Memorial consists of small, clear bottles, each containing a personal message.

At the Inquiry opening, at the hearings in 2019 in Belfast, Leeds, Edinburgh, and Cardiff and over subsequent years in London, people infected and affected continued to add their messages until and after the publication of the Inquiry Report on 20 May 2024.

The University of Manchester is now the custodian of the Inquiry Memorial and is committed to working with the Infected Blood Memorial Committee to integrate it into their research, teaching and public engagement.

The Inquiry Memorial can be seen from the Old Quadrangle.  You can visit the Inquiry Memorial on the ground floor of the Whitworth Building in the Old Quadrangle, which is open on weekdays from 7.00 in the morning to 5.30 in the afternoon.
