Dr Owen responded to a parliamentary question that Factor 8 supplies provided by the NHS were insufficient, so supplies had been purchased, exceptionally, by central commercial contract from the US, which had provided adequate supplies. He also noted that NHS production of Factor 8 had been increasing but this would depend on production capacity of regional transfusion centres.
