The MMWR reported that the epidemiology of AIDS suggested the involvement of an unidentified blood-borne agent. The CDC emphasised AIDS high mortality rate, the expectation that the mortality rate a few years after diagnosis might be far greater and the rapid increase in the reported incidence of AIDS.
