A study by Dr Rosemary Biggs suggested that the theoretical danger of exposure to infection increased with the number of donations contributing to the treatment material used. However, severely affected and multi-transfused patients were not found to have a high incidence of clinical illness associated with jaundice, which suggested that large pools might contain Hepatitis B antibody which might reduce infectivity.
