Letter from Stephen Dorrell, Department of Health, to Roy Hattersley, MP. Refers to a haemophiliac patient, Mr [GRO-A] suffering with Hepatitis C virus. Most patients suffering with Hepatitis C virus was prior to blood products being treated to destroying viruses. The Health Department are considering a range of potential initiatives to improve the understanding, treatment and management of hepatitis C, this includes expanding on research. However, the Government does not accept being negligent and has no plans to compensate such patients.
