HCDO0000271_044 - Minutes of the meeting of the AIDS Group of Haemophilia Centre Directors - 11 May 1987

Minutes of the Thirteenth Meeting of the Aids Group of Haemophilia Directors at the Royal Free Hospital. Dr Forbes, Dr Rizza, Professor Ludlam and Dr Craske all present. Dr Craske reports that 18 cases of HIV infection in female sexual contacts of haemophilia patients have been reported, which he notes suggests a low chance transmission to sexual partners. There was also discussion about the issue of informing a wife of her husbands HIV status against his will, and it was recommended that wives should be told in such situations. Dr RIzzas second report of seroprevalence in haemophiliacs had been rejected by the British Medical Journal, despite him writing and explaining the importance of the information. Dr Craske reported that 30 cases of AIDS in haemophiliacs had been reported,of who 23 had died. Also discuss the study of AZT and suitability of patients to participate in the study. There was discussion about financial arrangements for the care of AIDS patients and the question of compensation for haemophiliacs infected with HIV, however it was noted that there was no central funding for either of these issues, nor where there any plans to set up a government scheme to compensate victims.
