Letter from A Eddleston (Professor of Liver Immunology, Kings College London) to Dr T S Tedder (Head of Division of Virology, University College and Middlesex School of Medicine) re. follow up of HCV positive blood identified at the North London Transfusion Centre. Agrees that individuals with anti-HCV serology should certainly be viewed as donors who have abnormal tests rather than patients. States that they have set up a Hepatitis Advice Centre on Thursday afternoons at Kings, run by senior clinical research fellows and a dedicated nurse counsellor. States they will only undertake further investigations if the standard liver function tests revealed significant abnormalities, and would only proceed to Interferon treatment if there was evidence of significant liver damage.
