Dr Alison Smithies wrote a letter to Dr Harris (DCMO) advising that research and development were duplicated unnecessarily across RTCs, Blood Products Laboratory, and Protein Fractionation Centre due to lack of central coordination; and that successful introduction of heat treatment to inactivate viruses in blood products would benefit from such central coordination.
