In her written statement, Irene Fitzpatrick explained that when her son, Gary, was reaching the end of his life a doctor said she would get reporters at her door if the death certificate said that Gary had died from HIV. She further said: "I was lucky Gary died at home because the GP came round and he agreed that HIV should be stated on the death certificate as the cause of his death."
