Dr Hilary Pickles wrote to the CMO referring to Kenneth Clarke's parliamentary response of 14 November 1983, stating that the reply was "strictly true at the time" and although with the benefit of hindsight there were strong indications AIDS could be transmitted by blood products, conclusive proof was not available.
