At a meeting of the MRC's Blood Transfusion Research Committee, it was agreed that there was "at present no need to screen potential blood donors for non-A non-B hepatitis" but the production of a vaccine would be waited with interest, and that it would be valuable to follow-up transfusion patients previously found to have a raised serum level.

The Maycock Group agreed to set up the Hepatitis Advisory Group (HAG). Its terms of reference were "to provide medical advice to the Chief Medical Officers of the Health Departments of the United Kingdom on all aspects of communicable hepatitis."
