A meeting of Regional Transfusion Directors agreed that prison governors should be asked to prevent known drug users from volunteering as donors, but that more information should be obtained about the association with cases of serum hepatitis.

There were concerns that 22 children were suspected of having AIDS, 3 daughters of the same mother, a sex worker with AIDS (but different fathers), and 7 confirmed cases in heterosexual males with haemophilia, 2 of whom were less than 10 years old, and one case in a homosexual male haemophiliac.
